Derek has over 20 years of experience as a medicinal chemist that has covered all phases of drug discovery. After 15 years at Boehringer Ingelheim, he transitioned to build medicinal chemistry teams in biotech. Before taking the head of chemistry role at Volastra in 2019, he led chemistry efforts at Bioverativ until its acquisition by Sanofi and then at Quentis Therapeutics. Derek obtained his B.S. at Boston College, his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley, and did a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California at Irvine.
